Just as Song Shuyu, the chairperson of the China Alcoholic Drinks Association, told the Securities Daily reporter: "The internationalization of Baijiu is an inevitable trend. At present, the domestic Baijiu industry has been able to meet the demand of the Chinese market. Objectively, the industry itself also needs to move towards a broader stage."
Then, what is different about this round of "going overseas" of the Chinese Baijiu industry from the past? How should Baijiu enterprises pry the international market and make Chinese Baijiu "fragrant around the world"?
For this reason, the Securities Daily reporter went deep into the front line and had separate conversations with industry leading enterprises, the Alcoholic Drinks Association, Baijiu distributors, "going overseas" catering enterprises, investment institutions, etc., to discuss the opportunities and challenges faced by the Baijiu industry's "going overseas".
Group "going overseas" has become a trend
According to the alcohol export data from January to May released by the China Chamber of Commerce of Foodstuffs and Native Produce recently, China's Baijiu was exported to 75 countries and regions, with a total export volume of 6.48 million liters and a total amount of 370 million US dollars.
According to the data of the China Alcoholic Drinks Association, the total output of China's Baijiu in 2023 was approximately 6.29 million kiloliters. Data from the General Administration of Customs shows that the cumulative export volume of Baijiu commodities in 2023 was approximately 15,000 kiloliters, and the export volume accounted for only 0.2% of the total output.
According to incomplete statistics by the Securities Daily reporter, only 9 listed Baijiu companies in the A-share market have announced their overseas sales performance for 2023. Among them, the overseas revenue of Kweichow Moutai was approximately 4.35 billion yuan, accounting for 75.1% of the total export amount of Chinese Baijiu; Wuliangye's export amount was approximately 1.004 billion yuan; In addition, the total overseas sales revenue of the other 7 listed Baijiu companies such as Luzhou Laojiao, Shuijingfang, Gujing Gongjiu, Laobaiganjiu, Tianyoudejiu, Jiugui Liquor and Vats Liquor Store last year was less than 300 million yuan.
To open the international market as soon as possible, "government-enterprise linkage" and group "going overseas" have become a new trend, which is particularly prominent in the two major Baijiu production areas of Sichuan and Guizhou.
